Horseback Vacation Packages – WWOOFing

The Outpost is excited to be host member of WWOOF, World Wide Opportunities on Organic Farms.  Vacationing and volunteering on farms, rural and urban properties, is a wonderful way to broaden your education, immerse yourself in Canada’s mosaic of cultures, gain hands on practical experience and to see Canada inexpensively.  At The Outpost, you will lend a helping hand generally 5 hours a day and receive cabin accommodations, meals and an incredibly interesting backcountry experience. Ranching can be “all go” and “rest when you can”, but we get you on a horse most afternoons and evenings exploring the breathtaking vistas of Canada’s Rocky Mountains, or getting a lesson in our round pen. Riding time, meal preparation and clean up are not part of your volunteer time.  We love our WWOOFers  and appreciate their hard work and dedication to The Outpost. We make it our number one priority to ensure their experience with us is adventurous, rewarding, educational and above all fun! You will be expected to help and participate in our ranch related chores ie. caring for the horses, chopping firewood, repair and maintenance of cabins, corrals and lodge, kitchen help, gardening, etc.

A membership to WWOOF Canada ($45 – $65 per year and gives you a WWOOFer identification number) and a simple understanding of English are required. WWOOFing is legal in Canada, and in most cases a tourist visa or a holiday working visa will allow you to volunteer at all kinds or ranches and farms that belong to the WWOOF organization such as The Outpost.  WWOOF Canada provides great information on the things you need to know about visas, and helpful tips from Canadian Immigration and Customs as well as Canada Border Services. It is up to you to make sure you check with your country on the visa requirements to enter Canada. Information on WWOOFing in Canada is available at www.wwoof.ca .  Once you are WWOOFer you will be able to look up our Host profile.  You will find us under Outpost at Warden Rock Ltd. We accept WWOOF applications May to October each year, and prefer a stay of 3-4 weeks. We pick up wwoofers from hostels in Banff on Tuesdays and drop off there on Thursdays only. We provide transportation to and from the lodge.  We are not responsible for your transportation in and out of the lodge if you do not complete your contracted stay with us. You must be at least 18 years of age to WWOOF at The Outpost, and be reasonably fit for living and working in the backcountry.   You also must be able to live without the internet (no email access) and cell phone for the duration of your stay. Messages to your family and from your family may be left through our office. For more information on WWOOFing at The Outpost, please contact us.  We will provide you with details about the WWOOF experience at The Outpost and put you in touch with some of our past WWOOFers who would be more than happy to share their stories of The Outpost and answer any questions that you might have.

We sure hope you will be able to join us at The Outpost!
